User feedback messages keep applicants informed at every stage of the process. Clear status updates reassure users that their progress is saved, explain what’s happening behind the scenes, and reduce uncertainty while they wait for the next step.

Summary
The IENA application platform had become outdated and difficult to use, making it hard for applicants to apply, track progress, and manage the different stages of their application. A full refresh was needed to modernise the experience, introduce IENA’s new branding, and rethink the end-to-end user journey, from initial application through to interviews with camps and getting hired.
As the sole designer, I led the redesign of the web app from concept to final delivery. I began by auditing the existing system and mapping the applicant journey, then created low-fidelity wireframes to simplify flows and clarify key stages. These were followed by high-fidelity UI designs in Figma that aligned with IENA’s updated brand and focused on usability and clarity.
Throughout the project, I took a user-first approach, designing an experience that gives applicants visibility and control at every step of the process. The result is a streamlined, modern web app that makes applying easier, reduces friction across application stages, and supports applicants through to successful placement with camps.
The IENA application platform plays a critical role in helping participants secure summer camp roles, but the previous experience was clunky and confusing. Applicants often felt unsure where to start, what to complete next, or how close they were to finishing. My goal was to put clarity and guidance at the centre of the redesign, making the application process feel manageable from start to finish.
Applicants were getting stuck mid-application due to a lack of structure and direction. Key steps weren’t clearly signposted, progress wasn’t visible, and users had no easy way to understand which sections were complete and which still needed attention. This led to frustration, drop-offs, and uncertainty around what was required to move forward.
To address these challenges, I redesigned the application flow around clear, sequential steps. Each stage of the process was broken down into an ordered checklist, guiding applicants through exactly what to complete next. I introduced a progress-driven interface that clearly shows completed sections, upcoming tasks, and remaining requirements, helping users stay oriented and motivated throughout the journey.
The result is a streamlined, user-focused application experience that provides clear direction, reduces friction, and gives applicants confidence as they progress from initial application through to interviews and placement.
Keeping Users Informed
User feedback messages keep applicants informed at every stage of the process. Clear status updates reassure users that their progress is saved, explain what’s happening behind the scenes, and reduce uncertainty while they wait for the next step.
Support, Always Within Reach
In-app guidance is always visible within the dashboard, helping applicants understand application steps and status updates at a glance. This proactive support reduces uncertainty for users and minimises time spent by staff answering repeat questions.
Application Status & Notifications
The notification panel gives users instant visibility into their application type and current status, with alerts highlighting important updates or messages and quick access to key account details.
Visual Progress Guidance
The checklist provides clear, real-time feedback as users complete each step, with color-coded statuses and a structured order that guides them smoothly through the process.
Simple Step Process Bar
The step process gives applicants clear direction by breaking the application into simple, structured stages. It shows what’s been completed, what’s next, and what remains, helping users stay on track and move through the application with confidence.
